Drawing on influences of soul, R’nB and pop, “Back to Earth” is a collaborative effort with multi-platinum producer J.Kelr (Chance the Rapper, Anderson Paak, Kendrick Lamar) in conjunction with Nick Breton at Truth Studios. MA/SA’s voice carves out a retrospective and vulnerable sonic space, cascading over hip/hop infused beats, dusted in crackling vinyl and gleaming with brassy overtones. Confronting the cultural conditioning of the capitalistic society our generation was born into, while implicating the responsibility we all have to address the reality and threat of climate change, “Back to Earth” suggests that the ball is now in our court and “we carry all” moving forward.
lyrics
Saturday morning, back in the 90’s
Lost in the TV, didn’t see the warmings.
We carry all, carry all.
The song’s of our parents, the crackle of vinyl.
Radio Flyer, dreaming of the future.
We carry all, carry all.
The bottom dollar ’til our graves,
Placed on the altar, god of praise.
The smoke billows, blocks out the sun.
This life we chose, won’t nothing stop our fun.
The world is on fire, business per usual.
Funeral pyre, world is fire, burning empire.
We carry all, carry all.
We carry all mistakes you’ve made.
The generations you’ve betrayed.
The smoke billows, blocks out the sun.
This life you chose, won’t stop until it’s done.
